Kathryn Hayne Barnwell
Attorney Barnwell joined the firm in 2010. She practices criminal defense at both the trial and post-conviction level. She is admitted to the Massachusetts bar, the United States District Court for Massachusetts, the First Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. Attorney Barnwell was recently named a 2011 “Up and Coming Lawyer” by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly.
Attorney Barnwell graduated cum laude from Suffolk Law School with a concentration in International Law. During law school, she participated in the Jessup Moot Court Team and helped her team win the Best Brief award at the New England Regional Competition. She graduated cum laude from Vanderbilt University with Honors in English and a minor in Philosophy.
In just under five years of practice, Attorney Barnwell will have argued three significant cases before the Supreme Judicial Court. One of those cases involves whether the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms extends to 18-20 year old adults. So far, she has won two reversals of convictions from two different Massachusetts trial courts and one reversal from the Massachusetts Appeals Court. She is an active member of the Massachusetts Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the National Lawyers Guild. Attorney Barnwell is committed to protecting clients’ constitutional rights no matter the charges or the convictions against them.
